Wild resources provide you with the materials to forge your armies or give massive bonuses to the nearest city. Clay Pits and Wheat Fields provide bonus Production and Food respectively. Horses, Iron, and Crystal are all used when training higher-tier soldiers. To claim a Wild Resource, expand your borders until the tile is in your territory. Select the resource and press the Build button. Every claimed resource will cost a Logistics point.
